In conjunction with Drytooling UK we are holding a weekend devoted to drytooling here at Shropshire Climbing Centre.
What is drytooling?
Drytooling involves using ice axes to hook over holds and developed as a means of climbing outside in winter. It has since become a big indoor sport, with its own competition circuit.
It's not just about competitions, though- anyone can try this fun style of climbing. Whether you are a regular winter climber, alpine climber or complete beginner come along and have a go!
Throughout the weekend we will be running taster sessions for anyone to try the activity. No previous experience is necessary, and the emphasis is on trying drytooling in a non-competitive, pressure-free environment. No need to feel intimidated- most climbers haven't tried this before either!
For those who've done some winter climbing, workshops will be running throughout the weekend. As these are likely to be very popular, it is strongly advisable to pre-book a place on these. There are a maximum of 6 places on each workshop.
The competition will involve a variety of unusual moves, and should be fun to participate in and to watch. Scottish Dry tooling series- for more info
The event is organised and run by Pete Hill, one of the country's leading drytool specialists. and author of several books on drytooling. Pete will be taking the workshops and it's a great opportunity to pick up tips from him.
All necessary equipment is provided by us!
Is it suitable for children?
Children as young as 8 have participated in similar events in the past. If your child is reasonably fit and keen to have a go, sign them up for a come and try session!
